Does This Sound Familiar?

Still in pain despite doing everything right?

Most patients arrive at our clinic after months (sometimes years) of trying other routes. If any of these resonate, a targeted injection may be the answer.

Physio isn't fixing it

You've completed a course of physiotherapy but the pain returns as soon as you get back to normal activity.

NHS waiting times are too long

You've been referred but you're looking at months before you even see a specialist, let alone receive treatment.

Painkillers only mask the problem

Anti-inflammatories provide temporary relief, but the underlying inflammation or structural issue remains.

Pain is limiting your life

You've stopped playing sport, sleeping well, or doing the things you love because the pain is unpredictable or constant.

An ultrasound-guided injection delivers medication directly to the source of the problem, providing targeted, rapid relief that systemic treatments can't replicate.

Why It Matters

Expert assessment before any treatment goes ahead

Your consultation is conducted in person by Liam Goode (Clinic Lead) or one of our specialist sonographers. They will assess your condition, review your history, and advise on the right treatment -whether that's an injection, physiotherapy, or shockwave therapy. If you proceed, your £50 consultation fee is deducted from the treatment cost. Dr Rob Henderson oversees clinical quality: he sets the protocols, reviews scans and reports, and ensures every procedure meets consultant standard.

Pinpoint accuracy

Every injection is guided by live ultrasound imaging, with the clinician visualising the needle entering the target tissue before any medication is delivered.

Consultant quality on every case

Dr Henderson sets and audits clinical protocols, reviews scan reports, and ensures our in-clinic team operates to consultant standard. He is available for complex or unusual presentations.

Better outcomes than blind injection

Clinical evidence consistently shows that ultrasound-guided injections produce significantly superior pain relief compared to landmark (blind) injections.

FAQ

Common questions answered

An ultrasound-guided injection uses real-time imaging to place a needle precisely within a joint, tendon, or bursa. The clinician watches the needle enter the tissue on a monitor as the injection is delivered, ensuring accuracy and safety that blind techniques cannot match.
No. You can book directly without a GP referral. Liam (our Clinic Lead) or our specialist sonographer will conduct a full clinical assessment at your consultation to confirm your diagnosis and advise on the most appropriate treatment.
Most patients notice significant improvement within 2–7 days of a steroid injection. Some experience a mild temporary flare in the first 24-48 hours, which is normal and resolves quickly. Hyaluronic acid injections may take 2–4 weeks to reach full effect.
Duration varies by condition, injection type, and individual response. Steroid injections typically provide relief for several weeks to months. Hyaluronic acid can last 6–12 months. Arthrosamid has shown effects lasting several years in clinical trials. Your clinician will advise you on realistic expectations for your specific case.
In line with NICE guidance, we recommend a maximum of three steroid injections per joint in any 12-month period. If steroid injections do not provide sufficient relief, we can discuss alternatives such as hyaluronic acid or Arthrosamid.
Most patients describe brief pressure or mild stinging. We use fine-gauge needles and can apply local anaesthetic if required. Ultrasound guidance means we take the most efficient route to the target, minimising discomfort.
Ultrasound-guided injections are very safe. The most common side effect is a temporary post-injection flare (mild pain increase for 24–48 hours), affecting around 10% of patients. Less common effects include temporary skin changes or facial flushing. Serious complications such as joint infection are rare (approximately 1 in 10,000). Your clinician will discuss your individual risk profile before proceeding.
Many private health insurance policies cover ultrasound-guided injection procedures. We recommend contacting your insurer before your appointment to confirm coverage and any authorisation requirements. We can provide an itemised invoice for your claim.
